| Obverse description | Central field bears the tughra or name inscription of Sultan Hussein Kamil in ornate Arabic calligraphy, with the accession date AH 1333 incorporated into the legend. The inscription is arranged in a formal, multi-line cartouche style typical of Egyptian sultanate coinage. A beaded border encircles the entire design. Note: All obverses of this issue bear the accession date digits ١٣٣٣ (AH 1333) regardless of the year of striking. |

The entire central motif is encircled by an open wreath of palm fronds tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The Arabic inscription 'السلطانة المصرية' (Egyptian Sultanate) curves across the upper field.
