Additional information

Amanullah Khan's modernization drive in the 1920s pushed Afghanistan toward a rationalized decimal coinage system, replacing the older non-decimal structure that had persisted under his predecessors. The billon pul denominations were central to that reform. Amanullah's ambitions ultimately outpaced public tolerance — his forced Westernization policies triggered the Khost rebellion and, by 1929, his abdication. Coins from his final reform years circulated only briefly before the political collapse, which partly accounts for the survival of reasonably unworn examples despite billon's inherent susceptibility to corrosion and porosity.
