Northern Bank rebranded to Danske Bank in 2012, making this the only polymer series issued under that name before the Danish parent withdrew from the Republic of Ireland retail market in 2019 and subsequently announced its full exit from Northern Ireland personal banking in 2021. The notes remained legal tender in Northern Ireland alongside the other clearing bank issues, as they do under the terms governing authorised commercial note-issuing banks there.

The polymer substrate was sourced from De La Rue's Safeguard platform, which Northern Bank had already adopted before the rebrand — one of the earlier commercial bank adoptions of polymer in the UK and Ireland.
