Edward III's claim to the French throne — through his mother Isabella, daughter of Philip IV — triggered the Hundred Years' War in 1337 and reshaped the political geography of Western Europe for over a century. His reign also saw the catastrophic arrival of the Black Death in England in 1348, which killed roughly a third of the population and fundamentally altered the labor economy, accelerating the decline of feudal serfdom decades before any legislation addressed it.
Tristan da Cunha issues coins nominally but has no functioning retail economy — these are struck for the collector market through Saint Helena's administrative apparatus.
