Obverse description The copper-nickel center features the Mexican national coat of arms, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus and devouring a serpent, rendered in fine detail against a plain field. The aluminum-bronze outer ring bears the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arching along the upper periphery. The lower portion of the ring is decorated with an oak branch to the left and an olive branch to the right, tied at the base with a ribbon, a design element standard to Mexican coinage of this period.
