The "Year of Trujillo" designation printed on this note marks 1955 as the 25th anniversary of Rafael Trujillo's dictatorship — the regime organized a year-long international fair in Santo Domingo, grandly renamed Ciudad Trujillo, to celebrate itself. The banknote series was issued in 1956 carrying that commemorative overprint, an unusual case of a head of state weaponizing the currency supply as personal propaganda infrastructure.
ABNC produced the series from its New York facilities under standard contract arrangements with the Banco Central, which had been effectively subordinated to Trujillo's personal financial interests since its founding in 1947.
