| Obverse description | The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms in the centre, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons, rendered in fine detail within the darker copper-nickel centre. The circumferential legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper portion of the aluminium bronze outer ring. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents the emblem of the Heroico Colegio Militar at centre, depicting crossed cannons overlaid with a torch and radiating arrows, flanked by a drum on the right, all rendered in the darker copper-nickel centre field. Small military vignettes — including armed soldiers and weapons — are distributed around the lower portion of the aluminium bronze outer ring, evoking the academy's martial heritage. The mint mark Mo appears to the upper right of the central device, with the motto POR EL HONOR DE MÉXICO inscribed vertically along the left side of the inner field. The two-line circumferential legend SECRETARÍA DE LA DEFENSA NACIONAL / BICENTENARIO DEL HEROICO COLEGIO MILITAR 1823-2023 arcs along the upper ring, while the denomination $20 appears prominently at the bottom of the field. |

Issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the Heroic Military Academy (Heroico Colegio Militar), founded in 1823 shortly after Mexican independence. The institution gained its "Heroico" honorific following the 1847 Battle of Chapultepec, when cadets — some as young as thirteen — refused to abandon their post during the U.S. invasion and died defending the castle. The so-called Niños Héroes became one of the most politically durable symbols in Mexican national memory.
