The Banco Provincial de Córdoba was a provincial institution operating under Argentina's pre-centralized banking structure, before the 1890 financial crisis and subsequent reforms concentrated note-issuing authority in Buenos Aires. In 1873, Argentine provincial banks were still largely autonomous, each printing their own currency with varying degrees of backing — a situation that generated chronic distrust between provinces and fueled periodic runs on regional institutions.
PS#727A2 is a plate variety designation, indicating at least two distinct printings within the same type. The Córdoba provincial series is thinly documented, and surviving examples in any condition are infrequently offered.
