Luzarraga's bank was one of several private Cuban issuing houses operating under Spanish colonial authority in the mid-nineteenth century — a loosely regulated environment that permitted individual merchant-bankers to circulate their own paper. The American Bank Note Company handled production for much of this sector, printing notes for multiple Cuban private banks during the same period, which occasionally creates attribution headaches when undated or partially dated survivors surface.
The "18xx" dating on P#S116 indicates the year fields were left blank at printing, to be completed on issue — or were never completed at all, suggesting at least some of this stock may never have formally entered circulation.
