Additional information

Colombia's 1862 coinage law restructured the national monetary system around a decimal framework aligned with the Latin Monetary Union's weight standards, placing the 20 Pesos at the apex of the gold series. Production was divided across multiple mints — Bogotá, Medellín, and Popayán all struck examples — and quality consistency varied sharply between them, with Popayán strikes from the early years of this range known for softer definition owing to aging equipment and irregular planchet preparation.

The 1876–1877 civil war disrupted mint operations substantially. Pieces dated through that conflict are scarcer than the relatively smooth production years on either side.
