Reverse description A close-up section of the Royal Shield of Arms as redesigned by Matthew Dent, forming part of the jigsaw series introduced across the decimal coinage in 2008. The 20 pence reverse displays the first and fourth quarters of the shield, depicting the three golden lions passant guardant of England against a finely hatched field, with the upper portion of the shield showing a fleur-de-lis. The denomination 'TWENTY PENCE' appears in the right-hand border of the coin, reading vertically. The engraver's initials 'MD' are present within the design.
