| Obverse description | The second definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, rendered in high relief after the model by Arnold Machin. The Queen is depicted wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, with the neck truncation bare. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D· arcs around the periphery in Latin script. The portrait is executed in a classical, naturalistic style characteristic of Machin's Royal Mint work from 1968 onward. |

| Reverse description | A large crowned Tudor rose occupies the centre of the field, depicted in full bloom with a smaller inner rose, rendered in fine detail by William Gardner. The date 1982 is divided across the upper field, with '19' to the left and '82' to the right of the rose stem. The designer's initials 'W G' appear in the lower field flanking the stem. The legend TWENTY PENCE arcs around the upper periphery, while the large numeral '20' is boldly rendered at the base of the design. |
