Additional information

The Isle of Man's platinum coinage of the early 1980s was a deliberate commercial venture by the Manx government, exploiting the island's legislative independence from Westminster to issue specie in metals the Royal Mint would not touch. Platinum circulation-type pieces were virtually unheard of anywhere in the world at the time, and the Manx authorities — working closely with Pobjoy Mint — positioned these as premium collectibles dressed in the legal clothing of currency.

The two Schön varieties reflect a mid-run revision to the reverse die between the 1982 and 1983 issues.
