Additional information

The Mountain hare (Lepus timidus) is the only native lagomorph on the Isle of Man, having survived there since the last glacial period while being absent from mainland Britain without deliberate introduction. The Isle of Man issues its own coinage under the authority of the Manx Treasury, independent of the Royal Mint, which has allowed the island to pursue wildlife-focused circulating designs largely on its own terms since the 1970s.
