Obverse description Central device depicts a charging ox rendered in vivid polychrome colour-printing, its body adorned with intricate Portuguese azulejo-inspired tile patterns in shades of blue, orange, and teal. The ox is shown in a dynamic three-quarter frontal posture with head lowered and tail raised, conveying strength and vitality. The field surrounding the figure features delicate incuse leaf and floral scrollwork motifs in the Macanese decorative tradition. To the right, the bilingual legend reads 中國澳門 above MACAU, CHINA, followed by the denomination 20圓 PATACAS, the cyclical year inscription 辛丑年, and the date 2021.

Additional information

Macao's lunar series coins are issued jointly under the authority of the AMCM and distributed primarily through the Fábrica de Papel-Moeda, with the 2021 Ox issue timed to coincide with Chinese New Year on February 12th. The Ox holds specific significance in the Sino-Portuguese cultural framework that defines Macanese identity — 1961, the last Ox year before Portugal's full administrative control began unwinding, saw the first serious anti-colonial riots on the peninsula.

Mintages for AMCM lunar bullion issues are tightly capped, and secondary market premiums tend to spike sharply in the weeks surrounding the new year celebration itself.
