| Reverse description | The reverse, in a complementary violet palette, presents a central vignette of the Macao Science Centre — its distinctive cone-shaped planetarium dome and angular main building rendered in intaglio — set against a background of geometric guilloche patterns and a faint circular astronomical motif. The denomination '20' appears at upper left alongside the bilingual legend '澳門元 PATACAS', while the regulatory and authorisation text is printed in Portuguese and Chinese at the left margin. The Bank of China logo and Chinese issuer name are repeated at upper right. |

Banco da China is one of three commercial banks licensed to issue pataca notes in Macao — the others being Banco Nacional Ultramarino and Tai Fung Bank. This note marks the 20th anniversary of the handover of Macao from Portuguese to Chinese administration, which occurred on 20 December 1999. The 20 pataca denomination was chosen deliberately to mirror that figure.
Printed by CBPMC, the state printing authority for the People's Republic, which has produced Macao commemorative issues for Banco da China since the handover period.
