Thomas De La Rue held the Tongan printing contract for decades, and this series continued that unbroken relationship into the post-1988 constitutional monetary reforms that separated the National Reserve Bank from the broader functions previously held by the Bank of Tonga. The Pa'anga had been pegged informally to the Australian dollar for much of its managed history, giving these notes a practical anchoring that the watermark-only security suite somewhat undersells by later regional standards.
P#29 is among the shorter-lived issues in the series, replaced within three years.
