Obverse description Within an octagonal inner frame set against a mirror-polished field, the traditional Peruvian coat of arms is depicted as a seated female allegory holding a staff aloft in her right hand, accompanied by a llama and a cinchona tree — the emblematic elements of the Peruvian arms. The date '1996' is inscribed in the field, split to either side of the central device. Below the inner frame, the issuer legend 'BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU' is inscribed in two lines, with the denomination '20 NUEVOS SOLES' prominently displayed beneath in large numerals and text.

Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a male javelin thrower is depicted in dynamic mid-throw pose, rendered in high relief against a polished field. To the right of the athlete stands an upright Olympic torch with a flame. The inscription 'Los Angeles' and the date '1932' appear in the lower left field within the inner circle, referencing Peru's participation in the 1932 Olympic Games. The Olympic rings symbol appears to the right. The surrounding legend reads 'XXVI OLIMPIADA • ATLANTA 1996' along the upper border and 'CENTENARIO 1896-1996' along the lower border, commemorating the centenary of the modern Olympic Games.
