Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uruguay occupies the central field, depicted as a quartered oval shield bearing scales of justice, a fortified hill, a horse, and an ox, surmounted by a radiant sun with a human face. The shield is flanked by laurel and olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, with five small five-pointed stars arranged in an arc below the wreath. The legend URUGUAY curves along the upper periphery, the date 1984 appears in the left and right fields flanking the shield, and the denomination N$ 20 is inscribed along the lower border.
