Obverse description The silver centre displays the Mexican national arms in high relief: an eagle passant-rampant, facing left, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky islet, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons. The device is rendered in fine detail with precise feather work and a naturalistic cactus pad arrangement. The aluminium-bronze outer ring bears the arc legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the upper periphery, with an ornamental laurel and olive branch motif tied with a bow at the base of the ring.
