Produced for the Simpsons-branded Monopoly set released by Hasbro in 2003, this is play money in the strictest sense — a licensed novelty item with no numismatic standing. Matt Groening holds the design credit by virtue of owning the underlying character IP, not because he sat down and laid out currency artwork. The actual production design would have been handled internally by Hasbro's games division.
Occasionally surfaces in notaphilic ephemera collections alongside other licensed Monopoly variants, of which there were dozens by the early 2000s.
