| Obverse description | Black on multicolor underprint with pink guilloche rosettes flanking the central vignette. An oval portrait of Joaquim Francisco de Assis Brasil is positioned at center, with the denomination numeral 20 in ornate cartouches to the left and right. The heading ESTADO DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL arcs across the top, with BONUS repeated in the upper corners and along the lower border, and the title VINTE MIL RÉIS in a bold panel at the foot of the note.
