Rio Grande do Sul's state treasury issued its own paper obligations well into the 1930s, a practice that reflected the region's longstanding political assertiveness rather than any breakdown of federal authority. After the 1930 revolution that brought Getúlio Vargas — himself a gaúcho — to national power, the state's fiscal instruments occupied an awkward position: locally legitimate, federally tolerated, but increasingly anomalous as Rio de Janeiro centralized monetary control through the decade.
Lithografia da Livraria do Globo was Porto Alegre's principal commercial printer, better known for books and periodicals than currency. The Series F designation suggests a substantial program of successive emissions across multiple series, though documented survival rates for the later series run thin.
