Reverse description Centrally placed Prussian imperial eagle displayed with wings spread, surmounted by an imperial crown with a cross at its apex and flanked by decorative mantling. The eagle bears on its breast a quartered heraldic shield incorporating the arms of the German Empire, and below the shield hangs an oak-leaf garland with a pendant Order of the Iron Cross. The date 1888 appears to the right of the eagle, the denomination 20 MARK is inscribed at the base, and the legend DEUTSCHES REICH curves at the upper periphery, all enclosed within a beaded border with two small five-pointed stars flanking the denomination.
