| Reverse description | The reverse is printed in the same dark blue-violet ink over a rose-lilac guilloche underprint, with the full issuer title in Fraktur at the top. Three large interlocking cartouches dominate the centre field, bearing the numerals '20' at left and right and the word 'Mark' at centre; a small embossed municipal seal is set into the lower portion of the central cartouche. The serial number appears at lower left, the validity clause and extension reservation are centred at the foot, and the anti-counterfeiting warning 'Nachahmung strafbar' is placed at lower right, with the printer's imprint along the very bottom margin. |

Heidenheim an der Brenz was a modest Württemberg industrial town, and its decision to issue Notgeld in 1918 followed the broader collapse of small-denomination coinage circulation that plagued German municipalities in the final year of the war. Metal had gone to the war effort; local authorities filled the gap. Carl Edelmann — operating under the successor name W. Weller's Nf. — was a local press, which kept production close and costs low but meant no access to sophisticated anti-counterfeiting technology beyond the embossed seal.
The 145A.1d suffix in the DeNG reference indicates a recognized variety within the series, suggesting the municipality issued multiple runs with distinguishable differences.
