Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Emperor Frederick III, German Emperor and King of Prussia, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and full beard. The truncation of the neck appears at the lower center of the field, above the mint mark 'A' at the bottom. The surrounding legend reads FRIEDRICH DEUTSCHER KAISER KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN, separated by the portrait and arranged along the inner beaded border. The portrait is executed in a naturalistic, academic style characteristic of late 19th-century German coinage.
