| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, depicted with a full beard and short hair, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail characteristic of late 19th-century German coinage. The truncation of the bust is plain and unadorned. The encircling legend reads ALFRED HERZOG V. SACHSEN COBURG U. GOTHA, with the Berlin mint mark 'A' appearing at the base of the design. The entire design is framed by a fine inner border of raised beads. |
