| Obverse description | Green guilloche underprint on cream paper with a central vignette of the Wolfenbüttel town arms — a rearing horse — set within a circular frame at top centre, flanked by elaborate foliate and scroll ornaments. The denomination "ZWANZIG MARK" is set in large Gothic letterpress type at centre, with the numerals "20" in two oval cartouches to left and right. Below, a three-line validity inscription in Gothic script states the note's restriction to local monetary circulation; at the foot, the issuing authority "Der Stadtmagistrat:" is followed by two manuscript signatures. A violet overprint reading "Ungültig" (invalid) appears at upper left, and a red serial number is printed at upper right. |
