| Obverse description | Brown and salmon Notgeld note with a central oval vignette containing two allegorical putti figures flanking a rectangular panel bearing the denomination inscription in bold letterpress; the left putto holds a large basket of wheat above a winged element, while the right putto stands beside a cartouche. The serial number appears in the upper right corner, with the validity date "GÜLTIG BIS 1. FEBR. 1919" inscribed in the upper left. A lower text panel contains the redemption clause in German script, dated 8 November 1918, with the issuing authority and a manuscript signature; denomination numerals "20" appear in salmon-coloured underprint panels at lower left and right. |

| Reverse description | Predominantly salmon-toned reverse with an all-over guilloche underprint of repeated "20" numerals. At centre, a large cartouche-style vignette encloses the coat of arms of Kitzingen — a bridge over water with the Bavarian lozenge shield above, surmounted by a mural crown with foliate sprays — rendered in dark brown letterpress. Flanking the central vignette are two salmon-coloured rectangular panels each bearing the numeral "20" above the word "MARK"; the printer's imprint "CARL GERBER, MÜNCHEN" appears at lower left. |

Kitzingen's 20 Mark Notgeld from 1918 belongs to the first wave of municipal emergency currency issued as the imperial banking system buckled under wartime strain. Carl Gerber in Munich handled a substantial volume of Bavarian municipal printing during this period, and Kitzingen was one of dozens of small Franconian towns that contracted out rather than attempting local production.
The Stadtgemeinde — the municipal authority itself, not a savings bank or commercial house — took direct responsibility for redemption, which carried real legal weight at the time but became increasingly complicated as 1918 turned into 1919 and the political ground shifted entirely.
