| Obverse description | Grey-blue and red letterpress note with a large Gothic-script denomination 'Zwanzig Mark' at centre, set against a pale guilloche underprint bearing repeated watermark-style numerals '20'. At top, the Altona city arms — a red castle with towers on a white field — is printed in red above a banner reading 'Aushilfsschein der Stadt Altona'. The lower portion carries a six-line redemption clause in Fraktur text dated 'Altona, den 2. November 1918', four manuscript signatures above their respective titles (Oberbürgermeister, Bürgermeister, Bürgerworthalter, Stellvertr. Bürgerworthalter), a red circular official city seal, and a red serial number prefixed by 'No' at bottom centre. |

A figure — possibly Neptune or an allegorical maritime deity — is rendered at the top of the cartouche in teal, consistent with Altona's historic port identity.
