Osman III ruled for less than three years, from 1754 to 1757, and is remembered less for any policy or campaign than for an alleged personal aversion to music — Ottoman sources claim he banned it from the palace entirely. A commemorative issue this late in the sequence of Ottoman sultan series from Darphane suggests the mint has worked methodically through the dynasty's less celebrated figures.
