| Obverse description | Central depiction of an Ottoman galley (kadırga) with three large lateen-rigged sails fully set, rendered in fine detail against a mirror-polished field. Small pennants fly from each mast and from the bow, with the mint mark appearing below the vessel. The denomination '20 Türk Lirası' is inscribed along the lower rim, flanked by two raised dots, while the date '2019' appears just below the ship. The surrounding legend reads 'TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ' along the left arc and 'REPUBLIC OF TURKEY' along the right arc, separated by a raised star-and-crescent device at the top. |

Kılıç Ali Paşa was an Italian-born corsair — originally Giovan Dionigi Galeni from Calabria — who was captured at sea, converted to Islam, and rose to become Grand Admiral of the Ottoman fleet. He is best remembered for commanding the Ottoman rear guard at Lepanto in 1571, the only division to disengage with its ships intact while the rest of the fleet was destroyed. The Turkish State Mint has issued a series of silver commemoratives honoring Ottoman naval commanders, of which this piece forms a part.
