| Reverse description | Bust of Gül Baba, the 16th-century Ottoman Bektashi dervish, depicted facing slightly left in three-quarter view, wearing a large wrapped turban and an embroidered robe with a wide sash. His bearded visage is rendered with fine detail against a mirror-polished proof field accented by a geometric faceted design radiating from behind the figure. Clusters of roses in full bloom decorate the lower field and both sides, referencing his epithet 'Father of Roses'. The legend 'GÜL BABA' is inscribed in the upper field above the figure. |
