The Gökbey (T625) is Turkey's first domestically designed and produced utility helicopter, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries after decades of reliance on foreign platforms. Its maiden flight came in 2018, and the program was explicitly framed as a rejection of dependency on American and European airframes — a posture sharpened considerably after the U.S. blocked Turkey's F-35 access following the S-400 purchase dispute. Commemorating it in silver in 2025 is a deliberate act of industrial nationalism, not simply a collector issue.
