Additional information

The Aziziye Mosque in Konya was commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz and completed in 1867, making it one of the last great imperial mosque constructions before the Ottoman Empire entered its prolonged fiscal and territorial decline. Abdülaziz himself visited Konya the following year — a rare sultan's progress into Anatolia — and the mosque bears his name directly, unusual in a dynasty that more often named foundations after abstract virtues or deceased predecessors.

This coin belongs to Turkey's long-running series celebrating Anatolian architectural heritage, issues that have grown substantially in number since the mid-2010s.
