| Additional information |
Turkey's Supreme Court of Appeals — the Yargıtay — traces its institutional origin to the Ottoman-era Divan-ı Ahkam-ı Adliye, established in 1868 under reformist pressure during the Tanzimat period. The 150th anniversary the coin commemorates therefore reaches back not to the Republic, but to the late Ottoman bureaucratic reorganization that attempted to separate judicial functions from executive authority for the first time.
The Yargıtay was reconstituted under the 1961 Turkish constitution following the military coup of 1960.
