Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded bust of Prince Ferdinand I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and a short goatee beard. The Cyrillic legend arcs around the upper periphery, with the engraver's initials 'A.S.' (Anton Scharff) incuse below the truncation and the mint mark 'К.Б.' (Kremnica) at the bottom of the field. The coin is bordered by a continuous raised bead rim.

Reverse description Central device comprising the Bulgarian state coat of arms: a crowned shield bearing a rampant lion on a plain field, flanked by decorative scrolled supports, surmounted by a princely crown. The denomination '20' appears to the left of the shield and 'ЛЕВА' to the right. The Cyrillic legend 'КНЯЖЕСТВО БЪЛГАРИЯ' (Principality of Bulgaria) curves along the upper periphery, while the date '1894' is inscribed in the lower exergue, flanked by small star ornaments. The whole design is enclosed within a continuous raised bead rim.
