| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold, large numeral 20 dominating the central field, rendered in a clean, modern typeface. Beneath the numeral, the denomination legend KWANZAS is inscribed in capital letters, with the date 1978 below. The design is framed by an inner border of evenly spaced raised beads running the full circumference of the coin, creating a decorative inner ring against the flat field. |

| Additional information |
Angola's 1978 coinage was issued just three years after independence, when the MPLA government was fighting a civil war on multiple fronts and the kwanza itself had been introduced in 1977 to replace the escudo at par — a currency born into an economy already fracturing under conflict. The Banco Nacional de Angola had only been established in 1976, making this among its earliest sovereign issues.
