Zambia redenominated its currency in 2013, lopping three zeros off the old kwacha and reissuing the entire series from scratch. The P#59 20 Kwacha entered circulation as part of that rebuilt family, printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig — a house with deep African central bank relationships going back decades, and the natural choice for a redenomination rollout requiring tight security specifications on a compressed timeline.

The series ran through 2022, an unusually long window that reflects the relative monetary stability Zambia maintained before its 2020 sovereign debt default complicated the broader economic picture.
