The Børsen building in Copenhagen — constructed between 1619 and 1640 under Christian IV — is among the oldest stock exchanges still standing in Europe. Its depiction on this 2003 circulation issue coincided with growing national attention to the building's status, years before the devastating April 2024 fire that destroyed much of its distinctive spire and copper roof.
Margrethe II's fourth portrait, by sculptor Kirsten Kokkin, was introduced in 1998 and appeared across the aluminium bronze series through the mid-2000s.
