Obverse description Laureate draped bust of Emperor Franz II (Francis II) facing right, with a mint mark positioned below the truncation. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading 'FRANC.II.D.G.ROM. ET HAER.AVST.IMP.', an abbreviation for 'Franciscus II Dei Gratia Romanorum et Haereditarius Austriae Imperator' (Francis II, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans and Hereditary Emperor of Austria). The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style characteristic of late 18th- and early 19th-century Austrian coinage.
