Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Francis Joseph I facing right, his hair rendered in fine curling locks beneath a tied laurel wreath. The mint mark appears below the truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads FRANC·IOS·I·D·G·AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR, separated by a raised beaded border at the rim. The portrait is executed in a classicizing Neo-Renaissance style characteristic of mid-19th-century Austrian coinage.
