Issued to mark the Bank of Papua New Guinea's thirtieth anniversary, this note was one of the earlier commemorative polymer issues from the Pacific region — NPA's relationship with PNG dates to the country's first independent currency in 1975, making Melbourne the de facto technical home of the kina from the start. The transparent window, integrated into the substrate rather than applied as a patch, was still a relatively novel security feature in the broader commemorative note market at the time of issue.
