The P#126A belongs to Ukraine's sixth banknote series, a redesign program the National Bank initiated in 2016 partly to remove Soviet-era aesthetic conventions from the currency. The 20 hryvnia denomination has historically had a high turnover rate in circulation, and the cotton substrate used here was specified to meet a minimum folding endurance threshold after earlier polymer trials on lower denominations were abandoned.
Notes dated within this range bearing the 2022 or 2023 year designation were produced during active wartime, with the NBU maintaining printing continuity despite the Russian invasion — a logistical and institutional commitment that itself makes the later dates within the range worth noting.
