| Reverse description | Printed in dark red on cream paper, the reverse carries a full block of Gothic blackletter text setting out the legal terms of issue, stating that the Municipality of Vöcklamarkt in Upper Austria issued vouchers totalling 100,000 Kronen by resolution of 14 May 1920, redeemable at the municipal treasury in lawful cash until 31 December 1920. The denomination numeral '20' appears in a wavy-bordered box at the upper right, and the date and place 'Vöcklamarkt, am 14. Mai 1920' are given below the main text, followed by the title 'Der Bürgermeister' and a manuscript signature. Two cautionary notices in bold type warn against counterfeiting and state that notes without the municipal seal will not be redeemed. |

Vöcklamarkt is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg Empire and the economic dislocation of the post-war settlement. Communes were legally permitted to issue their own small-denomination emergency currency, and hundreds did, printing locally with whatever equipment was available.
The municipal seal substitutes for any formal security feature, which tells you everything about the trust model: these notes circulated on community recognition, not cryptographic protection. Acceptance beyond Vöcklamarkt's immediate district was never guaranteed.
