Sankt Peter am Hart is a small municipality in Upper Austria, a few kilometers from Braunau am Inn — the same town that housed the printer. The Heller notgeld boom of 1920 saw hundreds of Austrian communes issuing their own small-denomination emergency notes after postwar inflation and coin shortages made official small change effectively disappear from daily commerce. Josef Moser's print shop was a logical choice for several local communes, being the nearest capable press.
At 20 Heller, this sits at the lower functional threshold of the notgeld series — enough for a bread roll, not much else by late 1920 prices.
