A Notgeld issue from the Upper Austrian market town of Peuerbach, printed by Priezel in Steyr during the postwar economic chaos that pushed thousands of Austrian municipalities into issuing their own emergency small change. The national coinage had effectively vanished from circulation by 1919–1920, hoarded or melted, leaving communities with no practical way to make change for everyday transactions. Three signatories — Doblmaier, Wezlmeyr Alois, and Kindlinger — authenticated these notes by hand, which is slightly unusual for a town of Peuerbach's modest size and suggests a degree of procedural care not always observed in smaller Heller issues.
