Peuerbach is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1919 and 1921 — a period when the postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local governments scrambling to manufacture their own small-denomination emergency scrip simply to keep daily commerce moving. The Marktgemeinde had no printing infrastructure of its own; these notes were typically commissioned from regional printers and issued in small batches tied to local need.
The designer credit to H. Doblmeier is one of the more traceable details in an otherwise sparsely documented local issue.
