Neulengbach is a small market town in Lower Austria, and this 20 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg economy left small change essentially unavailable. J. Geßler's Witwe — the widow of J. Geßler — operated a local print shop in the town itself, making this one of the relatively few Notgeld issues printed entirely within the community that issued it rather than contracted out to Vienna.
The Jaksc/Pick reference suffix "a" indicates at least one variant exists within the 20 Heller denomination for this issue.
