Comments

Austrian Notgeld of this period was largely a local affair driven by the postwar coin shortage — the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system in 1918 left municipalities scrambling to fill the gap in small-denomination circulation. Luftenberg, a small commune on the south bank of the Danube east of Linz, issued this 20 Heller note as emergency scrip for exactly that reason. L. Haase was a Linz-based printer that handled numerous Upper Austrian Notgeld commissions during this window, and the work tends to be competent rather than elaborate.

The JPR0570e suffix indicates this falls within a documented series for the commune, suggesting multiple denominations were issued concurrently.
