Hofgastein's 1920 Heller notes belong to the enormous wave of Austrian municipal emergency currency — Notgeld — that flooded the country after the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy left smaller communities starved of small change. The Marktgemeinde issued these locally rather than waiting on a central supply that simply wasn't coming. Kiesel's Salzburg press handled a number of regional commissions during this period, making attribution straightforward where many similar issues remain murky.

Reisenbichler's design credit is unusual — most Notgeld of this scale went unattributed.
